For the Tonawanda Creek...including Attica, Batavia, Rapids... Moderate flooding is forecast. * WHAT...Moderate flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Tonawanda Creek at Rapids. * WHEN...From Thursday morning to early Saturday morning. * IMPACTS...At 14.0 feet, Moderate flood, some residential flooding with widespread road closures in North Clarence, east into Newstead and Royalton. Water begins to back up into smaller creeks such as Ransom, Black, Beeman, Gott, and Mud Creeks. Flooding in some low lying areas along Tonawanda Creek Road, Rapids Road, and Wolcott Road, with widespread farmland flooding. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 5:00 PM EDT Wednesday the stage was 9.29 feet. - Bankfull stage is 10.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage late tomorrow morning to a crest of 14.5 feet early Friday morning. Freezing rain is a condition where precipitation which has fallen in the form of
water droplets reaches temperatures which are below freezing and freezes upon
coming into contact
with surface objects. The result of this precipitation is a glaze of ice which
can be damaging to plants and man-made structures. A severe onset of freezing
rain which results in a very thick glaze of ice is known as an ice storm.

Hail is a form of precipitation which is recognized by large solid balls or
clumps of ice. Hail is created by thunderstorm clouds with strong updrafts of wind.
