Flood Warning issued July 12 at 8:18PM EDT until July 13 at 2:30AM EDT by NWS Baltimore MD/Washington DC
AREAS AFFECTED: Fairfax, VA; Prince William, VA
DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of northern Virginia, including the following counties, Fairfax and Prince William. * WHEN...Until 230 AM EDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 818 PM EDT, Emergency management reported numerous roads closed due to thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. - Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. - Some locations that will experience flooding include...mainly rural areas of Fairfax and Prince William Counties - Please visit www.weather.gov/safety/flood for flood safety and preparedness information
INSTRUCTION: Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

Cumulus clouds are fluffy and textured with rounded tops, and
may have flat bottoms. The border of a cumulus cloud
is clearly defined, and can have the appearance of cotton or cauliflower.
Cumulus clouds form at low altitudes (rarely above 2 km) but can grow very tall,
becoming cumulus congestus and possibly the even taller cumulonimbus clouds.
When cumulus clouds become taller, they have a greater chance of producing precipitation.
