DESCRIPTION: ...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED MONDAY... ...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS POSSIBLE TUESDAY... Our stretch of hot temperatures will continue on Monday, with the limiting factor for fire weather being weaker winds than those observed on Sunday. While we may not reach the typical 30mph wind gust threshold for Red Flag conditions, fuels are incredibly dry and temperatures will once again surge into the upper 80s to low 90s allowing RH to drop into the teens across Minnesota. Wisconsin will have weaker winds and cooler temperatures, but will still reach elevated conditions if not near-critical by the afternoon. The National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from noon to 9 PM CDT Monday. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. * WIND...South to southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. * HUMIDITY...As low as 15 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

INSTRUCTION: A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Freezing Rain Next Topic: Graupel

Freezing rain is a condition where precipitation which has fallen in the form of water droplets reaches temperatures which are below freezing and freezes upon coming into contact with surface objects. The result of this precipitation is a glaze of ice which can be damaging to plants and man-made structures. A severe onset of freezing rain which results in a very thick glaze of ice is known as an ice storm.

Hail Next Topic: Hole Punch Clouds

Hail is a form of precipitation which is recognized by large solid balls or clumps of ice. Hail is created by thunderstorm clouds with strong updrafts of wind. As the hailstones remain in the updraft, ice is deposited onto them until their weight becomes heavy enough for them to fall to the earth's surface.

Hail storms can cause significant damage to crops, aircrafts, and man-made structures, despite the fact that the duration is usually less than ten minutes.
